Smart Vent Crown (SVC) — Balancing Esthetics, Biological Safety, and Future Access

فارسی

In implant prosthetics, there are three main methods for attaching the crown: cement-retained crowns, screw-retained crowns, and screw-cement (screwmentable) models. Cement-retained crowns are superior in terms of esthetics and simplicity but carry the risk of residual cement; by contrast, screw-retained and screw-cement crowns provide full access to the screw but, because of their large access hole, affect the integrity and esthetics of the crown.

The Shahabian Concept was formed with the aim of creating a balance among these methods. The clinical output of this concept is a crown model called Smart Vent Crown (SVC).

In this design, the crown is fabricated as a cement-retained crown, but a small, controlled hole is created exactly over the location of the screw access hole. This hole is neither large enough for the driver to pass through nor completely closed; rather, it is designed to be just large enough for an explorer to pass.

This hole has several key functions:

• An escape path for excess cement during cementation (Vent)
• Reduced likelihood of residual cement around the implant
• Acting as a screw-location marker for future visits
• Providing quick and precise access to the screw when needed

In this way, the SVC offers an intermediate approach: the structural strength and integrity of the crown are preserved, the esthetics of the occlusal or labial surface are not jeopardized, and at the same time the cement escape path improves the biological safety of the treatment.

The Smart Vent Crown is not an absolute replacement for the existing methods, but rather a pragmatic solution for real clinical conditions; where accuracy, predictability, and the possibility of long-term serviceability matter.
