The Gap Between the Post-and-Core and the Gutta-Percha

فارسی

In post-and-core treatment, one of the concerns and points of emphasis that comes up is this:
that after the canal is emptied, the post should go all the way down, and ultimately there should be no gap between the post and the gutta-percha.
️But here we pause and reflect for a moment:
If the root canal treatment has been performed correctly and precisely and we have no concern about microorganisms or accessory canals,
and the principles of prosthetic treatment have also been precisely observed and there is no biomechanical concern,
a normal gap between the post and the gutta-percha is unlikely to have a meaningful effect on the treatment outcome.
Because all the conditions are ideal and, in the end, that space is filled with cement, and the absence of metal in that area is unlikely to have a meaningful negative effect on the treatment outcome. Now, as for how large this gap can be while still being acceptable, that requires study, but it seems that biomechanical characteristics play a prominent role in this regard.
